Safe, Eco-Friendly Bee & Wasp Removal in Crockett & East Texas

Bee and wasp nests on residential and commercial properties in East Texas range from minor nuisances to genuine medical emergencies — depending on the species, colony size, and location. Africanized honey bees, which have been established in East Texas for over two decades, are indistinguishable from European honey bees in appearance but are dramatically more aggressive in defence. A disturbed Africanized colony can chase a person or animal for more than a quarter mile and deliver hundreds of stings.

Wasp & Hornet Nest Removal Included in All Quarterly Plans

Critter Gitters Pest Management provides professional bee and wasp removal throughout Houston County — Crockett, Grapeland, Lovelady, Kennard, and Latexo — under TPCL #13381. We identify the species, assess the location, and apply the appropriate removal protocol. We do not offer honey bee relocation — if you specifically want a live honey bee colony relocated by a beekeeper, we will advise accordingly.

Stinging Insect Species We Remove in East Texas

Africanized Honey Bees

Africanized honey bees are established throughout East Texas and Houston County. They are genetically identical in appearance to European honey bees and can only be confirmed by laboratory analysis. The safest approach is to treat any established bee colony in a structure or on a property as potentially Africanized. Do not disturb, poke, or approach a bee nest or swarm. Call us immediately.

Paper Wasps

Paper wasps build open, umbrella-shaped comb nests under eaves, in window frames, in barns, and on outdoor furniture. They are less aggressive than yellow jackets but will sting when the nest is approached. Common throughout Houston County from spring through fall.

Yellow Jackets

Yellow jackets are highly aggressive and nest in ground burrows, wall voids, and attic spaces. They are the most dangerous stinging insect in East Texas residential settings — they defend their nest aggressively with little provocation and can sting repeatedly. Ground nests are especially dangerous — lawn mowing and foot traffic frequently disturb nests.

Bald-Faced Hornets

Bald-faced hornets build large paper nests in trees, shrubs, and on structures. They are extremely aggressive defenders and can spray venom at the eyes of perceived threats. Nest removal requires proper protective equipment and correct approach timing.

Mud Daubers & Other Solitary Wasps

Mud daubers, cicada killers, and other solitary wasp species are generally non-aggressive and rarely sting. We can remove mud dauber nests from structures and advise on management of solitary wasp populations.

Bee & Wasp Nest Locations We Service

  • Structural voids — bee colonies in wall cavities, soffits, attic spaces, and under siding
  • Eaves and roof overhangs — paper wasp and hornet nests under roof edges
  • Outbuildings and barns — common location for both bee colonies and paper wasps
  • Stored equipment — bee swarms and wasps establish in equipment not moved regularly
  • Ground nests — yellow jacket colonies in lawn and pasture burrows
  • Trees and shrubs — hornet and bee nest removal at height

Important Note: Bee Colony in a Wall Void

A honey bee colony established inside a wall void requires removal of the honeycomb in addition to the bees — otherwise the unattended honeycomb will melt, attract other bees (robbing behaviour), and cause secondary pest problems including wax moths, small hive beetles, and rodents. We assess all structural bee situations and advise on the appropriate removal and comb extraction protocol.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bee & Wasp Removal

Q: Is there a bee swarm in my tree. Is that dangerous?

A: A swarm (a cluster of bees on a tree branch, fence post, or structure surface) is typically a transitional state — the colony is resting while scouts search for a new nest site. Swarms are generally less defensive than established colonies. However, Africanized bee swarms can be unpredictable. Do not disturb. Call us for assessment.

Q: How long does bee removal take?

A: Exterior nest removal (wasps, hornets, exposed bee nests) is typically completed in a single visit. Structural bee colony removal from wall voids may require access work and follow-up to confirm elimination and address residual honeycomb.

Q: Are the bees in East Texas Africanized?

A: East Texas has confirmed Africanized honey bee populations. It is not possible to determine species from appearance alone. We treat all established bee colonies with appropriate caution regardless of apparent behaviour.
