Scorpion Control in Crockett, Palestine & East Texas
Finding a scorpion in your house is unsettling. Finding them regularly? That’s a problem that needs a completely different approach than standard pest control.
Here’s the deal — scorpions aren’t like other pests. They’re harder to kill, they hide in places you’d never think to look, and regular quarterly treatments don’t cut it. That’s not an opinion, that’s just how their biology works.

I contacted Critter Gitters this morning to help me eradicate a huge wasp nest on the front of my house and around the eaves of my roof. They kindly came out a couple of hours later, killed all of the wasps, and sent me a picture of the nests. Now THAT’S service!!! Wouldn’t use anyone else!! Thanks Lane for your help and awesome service!

Joey Baker was highly recommended by the realtor who sold me my house. I saw what looked like termites, but Joey came right away and identified carpenter ants. I saved some dead ones in a zip lock bag for him to look at. He and his team treated the inside and outside of the house. It only took 2 treatments to get rid of the little critters. Don't do what I did. When they first started trailing out of the wall, I sprayed pesticide on them. Joey let me know to let them trail, otherwise they will go back in and make another colony.

Stop Scorpions from Taking Over Your Home
That’s why our Scorpion Plan is separate from our regular service. It requires different products, higher concentrations, and monthly visits during peak season instead of quarterly. If quarterly service worked on scorpions, we’d offer that. It doesn’t.
Why Scorpions Are Different (And Harder to Control)
Striped Bark Scorpion
The most common in East Texas. Tan or yellowish with two dark stripes down the back. Found around homes, under bark, in woodpiles, sometimes inside walls.
Sting is painful but not dangerous for most people (kids and allergic individuals can have stronger reactions). Still, nobody wants to get stung.
These are the ones we’re dealing with 99% of the time around Crockett, Palestine, and the surrounding areas.
Why Standard Pest Control Doesn’t Work on Scorpions
Scorpions aren’t insects. They’re arachnids — same class as spiders — with a completely different physiology. Different nervous system. Different exoskeleton. Different tolerance to pesticides. The products that work great on ants and roaches barely affect them.
They can also survive almost anything. Months without food. Extreme heat. And they live 3–8 years — so an established population doesn’t just go away on its own.
They’re also nocturnal — during the day they’re hiding in cracks, under bark, inside walls, under rocks. You’ll never see them. At night they come out hunting: crickets, roaches, spiders, other insects.
Here’s what makes populations especially hard to knock down: female scorpions give live birth and carry their young on their backs until they can fend for themselves. That dramatically increases survival rates compared to insects that lay eggs and walk away. A single female living 3–8 years and producing multiple broods adds up fast.
Which brings up the other reason you’ve got scorpions: they’re following food. If you’ve got a lot of them, you’ve probably got an underlying insect problem keeping them fed. We address both.
They also glow bright green under UV light — helpful for finding them, but it doesn’t make them any easier to kill.
The Scorpions We See Around Here
Striped Bark Scorpion
The most common in East Texas. Tan or yellowish with two dark stripes down the back. Found around homes, under bark, in woodpiles, and sometimes inside walls.
The sting is painful but not dangerous for most people. Kids and anyone with allergies or sensitivities can have stronger reactions. For context — there is only one species of scorpion in the US with a potentially fatal sting, and it doesn’t exist in the wild in Texas. Still, nobody wants to get stung — and nobody wants them living in their house.
These are what we’re dealing with 99% of the time around Crockett, Palestine, and the surrounding areas.
Why Standard Pest Control Doesn’t Work on Scorpions
Most pest control is designed for insects. Scorpions are arachnids with a completely different physiology, and standard quarterly products applied at standard concentrations just don’t move the needle.
What actually works: higher-concentration products formulated for arachnids, applied more frequently, combined with harborage removal, entry point sealing, and eliminating the food sources bringing them in. That combination is what reduces populations over time. Any one piece of it alone is not enough.
Our Scorpion Control Program
Initial Inspection & Treatment
First visit, we’re looking for harborage areas — the places scorpions hide during the day. Under stones, in mulch, inside block walls, around the foundation, in the attic. We treat those areas with products that actually work on scorpions, and we treat entry points: gaps around doors, windows, and pipes where they’re getting inside.
Black Light Inspections (When Needed)
Scorpions glow bright green under UV light. For heavy infestations, we’ll do night inspections with black lights to find exactly where they’re hiding and get a real count of what you’re dealing with. Takes the guesswork out of it.
Addressing the Food Source
Scorpions are there because something is feeding them. Usually crickets, roaches, or other insects. We treat for those too — cut off the food supply and scorpions have a lot less reason to stick around.
Monthly Maintenance Treatments
This is the key piece. Scorpions don’t disappear after one treatment. Monthly service keeps the pressure on, reduces populations over time, and cuts off their food supply by treating for the insects they’re feeding on. We rotate products so they don’t build resistance, and we monitor what’s working visit to visit.
Monitoring
We use glue boards in key locations to track activity between visits — near garage doors, along entry points, in areas where you’ve seen them. It tells us where they’re getting in, how much pressure is building, and whether it’s time to increase treatment frequency. It also gives you something concrete to look at besides just taking our word for it.
What to Expect During Treatment
First Few Weeks
You’ll probably see more scorpions at first. That’s normal — the treatment flushes them out of hiding. Some will be dead, some moving slow, some might still be active. This is actually a good sign. It means the product is working and they’re being affected.
After a Month or Two
Numbers should drop significantly. You might still see one occasionally — especially if your neighbors have them — but it shouldn’t be a regular occurrence.
Long-Term
Most customers stay on the monthly plan for at least 6–12 months, then we evaluate. Some areas have heavier scorpion pressure and need ongoing monthly service. Others can scale back to quarterly once populations are under control. We’ll tell you honestly where you stand.
What You Can Do to Help
Treatment works better when conditions around your property aren’t working against us:
Optimize Your Property Conditions for Effective Scorpion Control
Seal gaps around doors, windows, pipes, and weep holes — scorpions can squeeze through surprisingly small openings, and weep holes in brick veneer are a common entry point that most people overlook
Fix moisture problems — they’re drawn to water sources, especially during dry stretches
Switch outdoor lights to yellow bulbs or reduce lighting — lights attract insects, insects attract scorpions
Shake out shoes, clothing, and bedding before use, especially anything stored in the garage or shed
We’ll walk you through all of this during the initial inspection. These steps don’t replace treatment, but they make it work faster and last longer.
Why the Scorpion Plan Costs More Than Regular Service
It’s a fair question and here’s the honest answer.
Monthly visits instead of quarterly. Products specifically formulated for arachnids that cost more than standard insecticides. Higher concentrations. More time per visit.
We’re not trying to upsell you. We’re telling you what it actually takes to control scorpions. If a quarterly plan at standard rates worked, we’d offer that. We’ve just seen too many customers try that approach, get frustrated when it didn’t work, and call us back. Save yourself the hassle and do it right the first time.
Scorpion Control Across East Texas
Scorpion pressure varies depending on where you are. Properties with rocky soil, wooded lots, or heavy ground cover tend to see more. If you’re near Lake Livingston, around Palestine, or in the wooded areas outside Crockett, scorpions are pretty common.
We’ve handled scorpion problems across every area we service. Some properties need more intensive work than others. We’ve yet to find one we couldn’t get under control.
Not Sure If You Need the Scorpion Plan?
Give us a call at (936) 546-7493. We’ll come out and take a look.
If you’re seeing one scorpion every few months, you might be fine with regular service. If you’re seeing them weekly or daily, you need the Scorpion Plan. We’ll give you an honest assessment and a clear recommendation — no pressure to sign up for something you don’t need.
Getting Started with Scorpion Control
Reach out and we’ll get you scheduled for an initial inspection and treatment. We’ll walk the property, identify the problem areas, and start the monthly treatment program.
Most customers see significant improvement within 4–6 weeks. But this is a process, not a one-time fix.
