I contacted Critter Gitters this morning to help me eradicate a huge wasp nest on the front of my house and around the eaves of my roof. They kindly came out a couple of hours later, killed all of the wasps, and sent me a picture of the nests. Now THAT’S service!!! Wouldn’t use anyone else!! Joey Baker was highly recommended by the realtor who sold me my house. I saw what looked like termites, but Joey came right away and identified carpenter ants. I saved some dead ones in a zip lock bag for him to look at. He and his team treated the inside and outside of the house. It only took 2 treatments to get rid of the little critters. Don't do what I did. When they first started trailing out of the wall, I sprayed pesticide on them. Joey let me know to let them trail, otherwise they will go back in and make another colony.

Finding a scorpion in your house is unsettling. Finding them regularly? That’s a problem that needs a completely different approach than standard pest control.
Here’s the deal — scorpions aren’t like other pests. They’re harder to kill, they hide in places you’d never think to look, and regular quarterly treatments don’t cut it. That’s not an opinion, that’s just how their biology works.
Stop Scorpions from Taking Over Your Home
That’s why our Scorpion Plan is separate from our regular service. It requires different products, higher concentrations, and monthly visits during peak season instead of quarterly. If quarterly service worked on scorpions, we’d offer that. It doesn’t.
The Striped Bark Scorpion in East Texas
The striped bark scorpion is the only scorpion species commonly encountered in East Texas homes. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension on striped bark scorpions identifies it as a climbing species — unlike ground-dwelling scorpions, it moves vertically and is commonly found inside homes on walls, in closets, and in bedding. Its sting is painful and can cause localized swelling but is rarely medically serious for healthy adults — different from the Bark Scorpion prevalent in West Texas.

Forest-edge habitat provides the exact conditions scorpions need: rocky debris, bark, logs, and prey-rich insect populations. How We Eliminate Scorpions From Your Home
Scorpion control requires a perimeter-first approach. We treat the exterior foundation, all ground-level harborage (wood piles, landscape timbers, rock borders, debris), and every gap along the roofline and foundation where scorpions enter. Bark scorpions can fit through a 1/16-inch gap — standard pest exclusion addresses most of these, but targeted sealing of scorpion-specific entry points is critical.
Inside, we treat wall voids, closets, and crawl spaces where scorpions hide during daylight hours. A UV/black light inspection at night can locate scorpions that daylight inspections miss — we offer this as part of severe-infestation assessments.

Are scorpions in East Texas dangerous?
The striped bark scorpion’s sting causes significant pain and local swelling but is rarely medically serious for healthy adults. Children and elderly individuals can have stronger reactions. If stung, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 for guidance. Seek emergency care immediately if you experience difficulty breathing, muscle twitching, or systemic symptoms.
Why am I finding scorpions inside even after treating?
Scorpions are long-lived (3–5 years) and highly resistant to many pesticides compared to insects. Treatment products that kill cockroaches instantly can take longer to kill scorpions. Perimeter treatment combined with exclusion and habitat removal produces the most consistent results — it’s a 30-day program, not a one-day fix.
Do black lights help find scorpions?
Yes — scorpions fluoresce under UV/black light and are easy to spot at night. Walking your property at night with a black light is a useful monitoring tool and can help you see where scorpions are concentrating so we can target treatment.
What should I do to make my home less attractive to scorpions?
Remove wood piles, landscape timbers, and rock borders from the home perimeter. Keep vegetation from touching the structure. Seal gaps under doors with door sweeps. Treat the home quarterly to reduce the cricket and insect population that scorpions feed on.
Can scorpions climb into beds?
Yes — striped bark scorpions are excellent climbers. If you’re in a high-scorpion area, keep bedding from touching the floor and the bed frame away from the wall. Some homeowners in high-pressure areas place the bed legs in glass jars to prevent climbing.
