Why East Texas Lawns Are Tough to Maintain

Clay Soil

Most of East Texas has heavy clay soil. Compacts easily. Drains poorly. Hard for grass roots to penetrate.

That means your lawn needs proper fertilization and soil management to thrive.

Heat and Drought

Summers are brutal. Lawns that aren't healthy going into summer struggle to survive.

Proper fertilization strengthens grass so it handles heat stress better.

Weeds

Crabgrass, dollar weed, clover, dandelions – they love the same conditions grass hates. Without weed control, they'll take over.

Pests

Grubs, chinch bugs, army worms – all damage lawns. A healthy, well-fertilized lawn recovers faster and resists pest damage better.

Our Lawn Care Program

Fertilization

We apply balanced fertilizer formulated for Texas lawns. The timing and formulation changes seasonally:

Spring: High nitrogen to promote green-up and growth
Summer: Slow-release formula to feed through heat without burning
Fall: Balanced formula to strengthen roots before winter
Winter (if needed): Light application to maintain color

We’re licensed by the Texas Department of Agriculture for lawn and ornamental applications. We’re not just spraying whatever – we’re using the right products at the right rates.

Weed Control

Pre-emergent applications prevent weeds from germinating. Post-emergent treatments kill existing weeds.

We target:

  • Crabgrass
  • Dallisgrass
  • Nutsedge
  • Broadleaf weeds (clover, dandelions, dollar weed)
  • And whatever else is growing where it shouldn’t

Different weeds need different products. We rotate herbicides to prevent resistance.

Treatments Throughout the Year

Most lawns need 6-8 applications per year – combination of fertilization and weed control timed to seasonal conditions.

We customize the program based on your lawn’s specific needs, grass type, and problem areas.

What to Expect from Professional Lawn Care

First Few Months

Your lawn will start greening up and filling in. Weeds will die off (though some stubborn ones take multiple treatments).

Don’t expect overnight miracles – lawn improvement takes time.

By Mid-Season

Noticeable improvement in thickness, color, and overall health. Fewer bare spots. Less weed pressure.

Long Term

A healthy lawn that looks good year-round, handles stress better, and requires less water and intervention.

Lawn Care and Your Regular Pest Control

Bundle lawn care with any of our pest control plans (Essential, Premium, or Elite) and save 10%.

Makes sense – we’re already coming quarterly for pest control. Adding lawn applications is easy and saves you money.

What We Don’t Do (And Why)

We don't mow. We're not a full-service lawn maintenance company.

We handle the science part – fertilization, weed control, pest control. You or your mowing guy handles the mowing.

Keeps costs down and lets us focus on what we're good at.

Grass Types We Work With

Bermuda

Most common in East Texas. Heat and drought tolerant. Goes dormant in winter (turns brown). Needs regular fertilization and mowing during growing season.

St. Augustine

Thick, lush, shade tolerant. More water-hungry than Bermuda. Prone to chinch bugs and fungal issues.

Zoysia

Dense, slow-growing, good heat and drought tolerance. Less common but a solid choice for Texas lawns. Stays green longer into fall.

Centipede

Low-maintenance, light green color. Grows well in acidic soil. Doesn't need as much fertilization as other types but still benefits from proper care.

We adjust our fertilization and weed control program based on your grass type. What works for Bermuda doesn’t always work for St. Augustine.

Common Lawn Problems We Address

Brown Patches

Could be fungus, drought stress, grubs, or other issues. We’ll diagnose and treat accordingly.

Thin or Bare Spots

Usually soil compaction, shade, or traffic problems. Fertilization helps, but sometimes aeration or overseeding is needed.

Weeds Taking Over

Means the grass is weak and weeds are filling in. We’ll knock down the weeds and strengthen the grass so it can compete.

Fire Ant Mounds

Included in Premium and Elite Plans – we treat fire ants across your lawn up to 20,000 sq ft.

Grubs and Chinch Bugs

We handle lawn pest problems as part of the program. Grubs eat grass roots. Chinch bugs suck sap and kill grass. Both need treatment.

Watering – Your Responsibility

We provide the nutrients and weed control. You provide the water.

General Guidelines:

Water deeply and infrequently (better than shallow, frequent watering). Early morning is best – reduces fungal problems.

During summer, most lawns need 1-1.5 inches per week (including rainfall).

Newly fertilized lawns should be watered within 24 hours to activate the fertilizer.

We’ll give you specific watering recommendations based on your grass type and conditions.

Lawn Care Across Our Service Areas

Whether you're in Crockett, Palestine, Huntsville, Conroe, or anywhere else we service, we've handled lawns in your area.

Soil types vary slightly. Some areas have sandier soil, others have heavier clay. We adjust our program accordingly.

Properties near the lake or with irrigation systems have different needs than properties relying on rainfall.

We treat each lawn based on what it actually needs – not a one-size-fits-all route.

Organic vs. Traditional Lawn Care

We use traditional synthetic fertilizers and herbicides. They work faster, more predictably, and more affordably than organic options.

All products are EPA-registered and applied according to label directions. Safe when used properly.

If you’re interested in organic lawn care, we can discuss options, but know that results take longer and costs are higher.

When to Start Lawn Care

Best Time: Early spring before weeds germinate. Get pre-emergent down before soil temps hit 55°F (usually late February/early March).

Can Start Anytime: If you’re past spring, we can still start a program. We’ll just adjust the approach – knock down existing weeds, fertilize, and get you on track for the rest of the year.

Fall is also a great time to start – less weed pressure and a good time to strengthen grass before winter.

How Much Does Lawn Care Cost?

Depends on lawn size and program frequency. We measure your lawn and give you a per-application price.

Most residential lawns in our area run $50-$150 per application depending on size.

With 6-8 applications per year, you're looking at annual costs comparable to a few tanks of gas – but your lawn actually looks good.

Way cheaper than replacing sod or reseeding bare spots every year.

Lawn Care + Pest Control Bundle

Add lawn care to your Essential, Premium, or Elite pest control plan and save 10% on both services.

Most customers bundle – makes sense financially and we’re already at your property regularly.

One company handling your pest control and lawn care. One point of contact. Coordinated service.
