Crockett sits at the heart of Houston County — a growing community of homes, farms, and small businesses surrounded by East Texas pine forest and river bottomland. That geography creates one of the most pest-diverse environments in the state. Termites thrive in the humid soil. Fire ants blanket open pastureland. Carpenter ants hollow through pine lumber in older homes. Mosquitoes breed in every low-lying drainage area from spring through late fall.
Critter Gitters Pest Control has served the Crockett area since 2006, operating under Texas Pest Control License TPCL #13381. We are not a franchise dispatching technicians from three counties away. Our service team knows Houston County’s pest seasons, soil conditions, and construction styles — and we build treatment plans around what’s actually happening on your specific property.

Houston County’s landscape creates conditions that sustain large, year-round pest populations. Unlike drier regions of Texas, Crockett receives consistent rainfall — averaging over 45 inches annually — which keeps soil moist and termite colonies active across all seasons. The Neches River corridor to the east and Davy Crockett National Forest to the north act as wildlife and insect highways, pushing pressure into the residential streets of downtown Crockett and surrounding neighborhoods.
Older homes in the historic district often have pier-and-beam foundations, crawl spaces, and wood-framed walls — all ideal conditions for subterranean termites and carpenter ants. Newer subdivisions pushing outward from Loop 304 sit on cleared land where fire ant mounds appear within weeks of ground disturbance. Agricultural properties south and west of town face constant rodent intrusion as fields are harvested.
Bottom line: Crockett’s pest pressure is not seasonal — it is year-round, multi-species, and property-type specific. That is why a one-size-fits-all spray service is not enough.
