Joey Baker was highly recommended by the realtor who sold me my house. I saw what looked like termites, but Joey came right away and identified carpenter ants. I saved some dead ones in a zip lock bag for him to look at. He and his team treated the inside and outside of the house. It only took 2 treatments to get rid of the little critters. Why German Roaches Are So Hard to Get Rid Of
They Breed Insanely Fast
One female German roach can produce 300-400 offspring in her lifetime. She carries the egg case with her until just before the nymphs hatch – which means you can’t just remove egg cases and stop reproduction.
Within a few months, a small problem becomes a massive infestation.
They Hide Everywhere
German roaches hide in places you’d never think to look:
- Inside appliances (stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster)
- Behind refrigerators and dishwashers
- Inside cabinets and drawers
- Behind outlet covers and switch plates
- In the motor housing of the fridge
- Inside cardboard boxes and paper bags
- Between walls
They’re tiny (about 1/2 inch) and can squeeze into cracks you can barely see.
They’re Resistant to Many Insecticides
Decades of pesticide use has created resistant populations. Products that worked 20 years ago don’t work now.
You have to use the right products, rotate them to prevent resistance, and apply them where roaches actually are – not just spray baseboards and hope.
Our German Roach Clean-Out Process
Initial Inspection
First visit is all about finding out how bad it is and where they’re hiding.
We check:
- Under and behind appliances
- Inside cabinets and drawers
- Behind kickplates under cabinets
- Around plumbing under sinks
- Inside pantries and storage areas
- Around the stove and refrigerator
- Behind outlet covers (if needed)
We’re looking at the level of infestation – light, moderate, or heavy. That determines the treatment plan.
Preparation Requirements (This is Critical)
German roach treatment requires serious prep work on your end. If you don’t do it, the treatment won’t work. Not negotiable.
Before each treatment visit:
Kitchen:
- Remove everything from cabinets and drawers
- Pull out the stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher (or we can do it)
- Empty the pantry
- Clear countertops
- Clean up food debris, grease, and spills
Bathroom:
- Clear out under-sink cabinets
- Remove items from drawers
- Clear countertops
Throughout the House:
- Eliminate clutter (roaches hide in it)
- Store food in sealed containers
- Take out trash daily
- Wash dishes immediately
We’ll give you a detailed prep sheet. Follow it exactly.
Treatment Application
Baiting Strategy
We use professional-grade gel baits placed strategically in areas where roaches travel and feed. These baits are highly attractive and contain a slow-acting insecticide.
Roaches eat the bait, return to their harborage areas, die, and other roaches eat the dead roaches (and their droppings) – spreading the insecticide through the population.
Sounds gross, but it’s effective.
Non Repellent Residual Treatment combined with Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs)
These take care of the roaches not found during vacuuming. They crawl through the treatment zone and transfer a lethal dose to all the other roaches they touch. This combined with the IGR disrupt the roach life cycle. They can't reproduce properly, nymphs can't mature into adults. Slows the population growth while the residual treatment and baits are working.
Dust Applications
In wall voids, behind appliances, and other areas where we can't use bait or sprays, we apply insecticidal dust that roaches pick up on their bodies.
Vacuuming
First thing we do is pull out appliances and vacuum all the live roaches we see. This usually takes care of half the population.
Follow-Up Visits
German roach clean-outs can require multiple visits depending on the severity of the infestation,
sanitation and harborage spots in the home.. We can assess the issue on the first visit and
know if we need to schedule another treatment.
- Inspect to see what’s working
- Reapply baits where needed
- Address any areas we missed
- Adjust the strategy based on results
What You’ll See During Treatment
Week 1-2:
You will immediately see a reduction in roaches. With proper treatment and prep, activity should be minimal or gone. You might see an occasional roach (from eggs that were laid late in the process), but the population should be knocked out.
Sanitation – Your Responsibility
We handle the pest control side. You handle sanitation.
German roaches thrive in homes with food and water available. Even the best treatment won’t work if conditions are conducive.
Daily:
- Wash dishes immediately (don’t leave them in the sink overnight)
- Wipe down counters and stovetop
- Sweep floors (especially under appliances)
- Take out trash daily
- Don’t leave pet food out overnight
Weekly:
- Deep clean appliances
- Empty and clean under the sink
- Vacuum and mop thoroughly
- Clean behind and under the fridge
Yes, it’s a pain. But it’s the difference between success and failure.
How Long Until German Roaches Are Gone?
Most infestations are under control within 4-8 weeks with proper treatment and customer cooperation.
Heavy infestations in cluttered homes with poor sanitation take longer – sometimes 3-4 months.
If you're still seeing lots of roaches after two months, we adjust the approach – different baits, more intensive treatment, or addressing prep/sanitation issues.
Why German Roach Clean-Outs Cost More
It’s a fair question. Here’s the reality:
Multiple visits (3-4 vs. one-and-done). Specialized products that cost more. Way more time per visit. Intensive preparation and application.
We’re not overcharging – we’re telling you what it takes to actually eliminate German roaches.
Try to do it cheap and you’ll waste money on repeated service calls that don’t work. Do it right from the start.
German Roach Clean-Out vs. Regular Pest Control
Our Essential, Premium, and Elite Plans cover outdoor roaches (American, Oriental, Wood roaches) with quarterly service.
German roaches need a different approach entirely – intensive initial treatment, multiple follow-ups, customer prep, and specialized products.
That’s why it’s a separate service, not included in regular plans.
Once the infestation is eliminated, we can add German roach maintenance to your regular plan to prevent reinfestation.
Can You Prevent German Roaches After Treatment?
Yes, but it requires vigilance:
Maintain sanitation standards. Don’t slide back into old habits.
Don’t bring used appliances or furniture into the house without inspecting thoroughly. German roaches hitch rides.
Stay on a maintenance plan – quarterly or bi-monthly monitoring to catch any new activity early.
Keep clutter to a minimum. Less stuff = fewer hiding places.
