German Roach Control in Crockett, TX & East Texas
German cockroaches are the most difficult to eliminate and the most damaging indoor pest species in Texas. They are not the large peridomestic roaches (American or smoky brown) that wander in from outside — they are interior species that live, breed, and die inside your structure. Every German roach you see represents a population 50 to 100 times larger hiding inside your walls, under appliances, in cabinet hinges, and behind outlet covers.

I contacted Critter Gitters this morning to help me eradicate a huge wasp nest on the front of my house and around the eaves of my roof. They kindly came out a couple of hours later, killed all of the wasps, and sent me a picture of the nests. Now THAT’S service!!! Wouldn’t use anyone else!! Thanks Lane for your help and awesome service!

Joey Baker was highly recommended by the realtor who sold me my house. I saw what looked like termites, but Joey came right away and identified carpenter ants. I saved some dead ones in a zip lock bag for him to look at. He and his team treated the inside and outside of the house. It only took 2 treatments to get rid of the little critters. Don't do what I did. When they first started trailing out of the wall, I sprayed pesticide on them. Joey let me know to let them trail, otherwise they will go back in and make another colony.

German Roach Control in Crockett & East Texas — Critter Gitters Pest Control
A single female German roach and her offspring can produce 30,000 roaches in one year. At Critter Gitters, we treat German roach infestations as the serious, biology-driven problem they are — not with a generic spray visit, but with a targeted gel bait clean-out programme that eliminates the population at the source.
Call 936-546-7493 or request a free estimate. We serve all of Houston County — Crockett, Grapeland, Lovelady, Kennard, and Latexo.
Why German Roaches Are Different From Other Roaches in East Texas
East Texas has multiple cockroach species. Understanding which one you have is essential — because the treatment is completely different:
German cockroach (Blattella germanica):
Small (12–15mm), tan with two dark stripes behind the head. INDOOR species. Lives in warm, humid areas near food and moisture — kitchens, bathrooms, behind refrigerators and dishwashers. Does not come from outside. Spreads through used appliances, grocery bags, and shared walls in multi-family housing. Cannot be controlled without interior targeted treatment.
American cockroach (Periplaneta americana):
Large (35–40mm), reddish-brown. OUTDOOR/peridomestic species. Normally lives in sewers, tree holes, and moist areas outside. Enters structures opportunistically. Controlled by exterior perimeter treatment.
Smoky brown cockroach (Periplaneta fuliginosa):
Large, dark mahogany. Outdoor/peridomestic. Common in East Texas — found in mulch, leaf litter, tree holes. Controlled by exterior treatment and moisture management.
Asian cockroach (Blattella asahinai):
Looks nearly identical to German roach but flies and is an outdoor species. Common in East Texas lawns and garden areas. Attracted to light. Controlled differently.
If you have small roaches in your kitchen — particularly visible during the day — you almost certainly have German cockroaches. Call us immediately.
Our German Roach Clean-Out Programme
Step 1 — Assessment: We inspect the full kitchen, all appliances (including interior of refrigerator motor compartment, dishwasher area, microwave, toaster), cabinet hinges, under-sink areas, and bathroom spaces. We assess infestation severity and identify all harborage zones.
Step 2 — Gel Bait Application: Professional-grade gel bait is placed precisely inside harborage areas — behind refrigerator gaskets, inside cabinet hinge recesses, under appliances, inside electrical outlet boxes, and in wall voids accessible from under-sink areas. Roaches feed on the bait and die. Other roaches then feed on the dead roaches and are also eliminated (secondary kill).
Step 3 — Insect Growth Regulator (IGR): We apply an IGR in the treatment area. IGRs prevent nymphs from developing into reproducing adults — breaking the reproductive cycle at the biological level. This is critical for complete elimination of heavy infestations.
Step 4 — Crack & Crevice Treatment: Targeted residual product applied to harborage areas that cannot receive gel bait — inside wall voids, around plumbing penetrations, and in areas where roaches travel between rooms.
Step 5 — Follow-Up: German roach clean-out typically requires 2–3 treatment visits. We return at 2 and 4 weeks to apply fresh bait, remove dead roaches and old bait, and assess population decline. Complete elimination of heavy infestations is confirmed at the final visit.
Why Spray Treatments Fail on German Roaches
This is the most common reason people call us after trying to handle German roaches themselves. Repellent sprays — both over-the-counter products and many standard pest control quarterly sprays — push German roaches deeper into wall voids and cause them to scatter into new rooms. This spreads the infestation without eliminating it. The roaches avoid treated surfaces and the population continues to reproduce.
Gel bait works because it is non-repellent and is actively attractive to roaches. They seek it out, feed on it, and carry it back to the colony. This is why gel bait placed correctly inside harborage areas outperforms broadcast spray dramatically — and why German roach clean-out requires a specialist programme, not a standard quarterly visit.
German Roach Health Risks
German cockroaches are not just a disgusting nuisance. They are a documented public health threat in Houston County households:
- Allergen production: roach body parts, shed skins, and droppings are among the most potent indoor allergens. German roach allergen is a leading trigger for childhood asthma — particularly in multi-family housing with persistent infestations.
- Food contamination: roaches travel between sewage, garbage, and food preparation surfaces — spreading pathogens including Salmonella, E. coli, and Staphylococcus.
- Psychological impact: a roach infestation in a kitchen makes the space emotionally unusable for many families.

Frequently Asked Questions — German Roach Control in East Texas
Q: I only see one or two roaches. Is it a real infestation?
A: Yes. German roaches are nocturnal and avoid light. Seeing roaches during the day — especially in the kitchen — means the harborage areas are severely overcrowded. By the time you see a few, the population behind your walls and appliances is likely in the hundreds or thousands.
Q: How long does the German roach clean-out take?
A: Most infestations are resolved in 3 treatment visits over 4–6 weeks. Severe infestations may require additional visits. We do not declare an infestation resolved until we confirm population elimination at follow-up inspection.
Q: Will I need to leave my home during treatment?
A: For gel bait treatment, no vacating is required. We use products appropriate for occupied kitchens and bathrooms. We will advise you on any short re-entry wait where applicable.
Q: Do I need to clean out all my cabinets before you treat?
A: We will give you a preparation checklist at booking. Generally, food items on open shelves should be stored in sealed containers or temporarily removed, and under-sink areas should be cleared. We do not require full cabinet removal.
Q: Can German roaches come back after treatment?
A: Re-infestation is possible if the introduction source is not addressed. German roaches in apartments often spread through shared walls from neighbouring units. Used appliances are a very common introduction vehicle. After successful clean-out, we recommend routine quarterly pest control to prevent re-establishment.
